FRW Architects is an international architecture studio with offices in Montreal and New York City, working at the forefront of urban development. Founded in 1984 by Karl Fischer, the firm has evolved from bespoke residential work into a practice defined by ambitious, large-scale multifamily and commercial projects that shape the character of the cities they inhabit.
Since 2017, the firm has been led by partners Marc Rasmussen and Hamish Whitefield. With over 50 years of combined experience and millions of square feet of realized work, their leadership reflects a balance of design ambition, technical mastery, and execution at scale.
FRW approaches every project with a clear point of view: architecture must perform, endure, and contribute. Our work is driven by strong design thinking and underpinned by deep expertise in zoning and building code—allowing us to unlock complex sites and deliver with precision.
We don’t see buildings as isolated objects. We see them as part of a larger urban narrative. Our projects are designed to engage their context, elevate everyday experience, and leave a lasting impact on the streets, neighborhoods, and skylines they join.
At the core of FRW’s practice is a rigorous, design-led approach, complemented by an exceptional command of zoning strategy and building code. The firm specializes in complex, large-scale projects where thoughtful architecture, precision, and a deep understanding of the urban fabric are paramount.
With a highly skilled team of Architects and designers, FRW maintains a hands-on, highly collaborative process—working in close partnership with developers and stakeholders to deliver distinguished, enduring architecture tailored to each site.
